Contrary to what my husband says, I am not a Mason jars addict. I just love buying them and organizing my things, the kids’ stuff and his thingamajigs using these containers. Frankly, I find them cheap and useful. Plus it looks so much better than plastic jars. It is not just for storing things, you know. It can be a helpful lunch jar as well.
For $32, I can have that 24-pack 16 oz. regular mouth with lid jars made by Ball which I buy from Walmart. That pack alone is not enough to store my effects. So I have like 3 packs of Mason jars (that is 72 containers all in all). My daughter asked 1 pack for herself. My son wanted 12 pcs only. My husband, well, he does not organize at all and I do it for him. I think I bought another pack and he used half of our son’s jars.
For my kitchen, I needed a variety of sizes. Naturally, I had 1 pack of the 16 oz. I also have those 1.5 pint sized jars with cap. It can keep about 3 cups of food and those are freezer safe too. Sometimes I place soft vegetables inside those glass bins and leave it for a week until I eat them. The Mason jars keep the food fresh as if it was bought just yesterday. The 1.5 pint jars I got from the same store but for 9 pieces per pack, it costs $24.
My mom is such a great cook and she has taught me how to use exotic herbs and spices to add flavor to my dishes. These jars are just perfect to use when you want to keep your spices dry. 1 pack of 4-ounce jars with 12 pieces per pack costs $12. I bought 2 packs, just in case and I am pretty sure that I have a few left. I think I will need some more by next month.
The Mason jars I used for my spices have chalkboard labels on the lids. It is easy to use and can be erased so in a manner of speaking, it can be re-used as well. The labels I bought for $15.99 in an online selling website. It was so handy in the kitchen when everything had labels on it.
I started using these glass jars as serving tumblers for when I have visitors. Some liked the idea; some were not yet ready for a coffee container-looking jar was served to them with some ice and lemonade. But now Mason jars are very common. You can easily buy it from anywhere. And the truth is that it really is a valuable home item.
Regarding the lemonade tumbler, I have those Aladdin clear glass traveler tumblers with the lid and come with matching colored straw. The lid colors available were blue isle, stainless steel, cherry tomato, Lolita and mint. Each tumbler costs $4.96. A little bit expensive but I like it so I bought 12 pieces of each color except for Lolita and the stainless steel. When my boy has his pals over, these Mason jars is what I use to serve them their non-alcoholic margarita. They love it! They call me the “too cool” mom.
